Our farm is located in Orange County, NC about five miles from the historic town of Hillsborough. The farm is owned and operated by Audrey Lin and Debbie Donnald. We have been farming this piece of land for 7 years. The first few years involved growing cover crops and adding compost to build the soil, which continues today. We began growing and selling produce about 4 years ago. We have always enjoyed growing our own food and are now doing it on a little larger scale.
We grow a variety of vegetables year round. In 2010, we erected an unheated hoop house and enjoyed growing in it so much that we added another in 2011. Along with selling fresh produce, we also sell our preserved vegetables. After Audrey attended a week long workshop with Sandor Katz, author of Wild Fermentation, we have started making more and more lacto-fermented foods. A large percentage of the produce we preserve is grown on our farm and any outsourced produce is bought from other local organic farmers.
We consider ourselves farmers who are also food preservationists. This seems like a natural relationship that makes our farm more sustainable. We are continuing to learn to be better farmers and food preservationists and in the process will be providing our customers with nutritious food grown using methods that are earth and people friendly.
